CHKDSK Hangs during Boot on "Verifying Indexes"

When I reboot my computer, I think for the past few weeks its been running chkdsk alot. I haven't really been paying that much attention but usually when I need this computer I just skip it. But when I actually want to it CHKDSK it goes through step 1 fine, and then after step 2 "verifying indexes" it speeds to 36k/45k as normal and then goes slower and slower until it final stops completely.

Try running chkdsk from the recovery console:

At recovery console command type:

CHKDSK.EXE C: /R

where c: is O.S. directory.
