I am pinging it from a windows machine. I didnt understand ur second question please explain
To be able to ping the hostname, it either has to be defined in DNS (Domain Name Service) or have a local hosts entry.
Is this a public host or on a local LAN/Intranet?

@ Tintin is right, you need to setup a dns server to ping Internal pc as hosname.
Either you can make linux SErver as Dns server and put all internal pc hostname in zone file
or make any windows Server as Dns server.
have a look bellow one, for bind setup in linux [ check the zone file]
http://www.centos.org/docs/2/rhl-rg-en-7.2/s1-bind-configuration.html
