How to install GUI mode for Ubuntu 8.10 server using DVD media

I have installed ubuntu 8.10 server edition in my pc. By default GUI mode is not present. Only CUI mode is there. I want to install KDE desktop for my server by using my ubuntu DVD media. By default when i install KDE it start installation by copying files from internet.

I want to install KDE desktop for my server by using DVD media.

Any Help?.

After uncommenting the line suggested by oklit, type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

You should have in your /etc/apt/sources.list line starting with: deb cdrom... (it will be probably commented with # at the beginning).
Uncomment this line, and run "apt-get update".

Hi oklit, & fmarzocca

I have uncomment the first line in sources.list file

deb cdrom: {Ununtu-Server 810 _Interpid Ibex_ -Release i386 (20081028.1)]/ intrepid main restricted

Then i execute this command "apt-get update" then i executed this command apt-get install kubuntu-desktop. It searching packages from internet only it not installing from local DVD media.

Further to uncommenting that line, you should also comment all the rest, so that apt will look only into the CD.

Not working. Couldn't find package kubuntu-desktop error. I have installed Ubuntu-Server 8.10 in that i want to install kubuntu-deskop this is my requirement.

I have removed all the lines except cdrom lines in source.list file in apt directory.

I have inserted the Ubuntu-Server 8.10 cd in my cd drive and i executed the apt-get install kubuntu-desktop. It showing Couldnot find package kubuntu-desktop.

Ah, of course! I was thinking you have the full DVD of kubuntu...

Should put the kubuntu CDROM into the tray!

I am having Kubuntu 8.10 cd. I have tried with kubuntu cd also it not working.

you have to change the cdrom line in /etc/apt/sources.list to the one of Kubuntu!

sudo apt-cdrom add
(follow on screeen instructions)

sudo apt-get update
