hello experts,

i have installed a fresh copy XP on Dell inspiron 1525 and have installed all the required device drivers from the dell website.

all works ok except the screen, it is bit blurry i mean, the text is not clear enough, although it is not very big issue but would be great if someone of you could advise to improve this?

thanks

Check that your resolution is the correct one (I think it is 1280×800 for that one)
Also check your Clear Type settings, I find when it's on, It can be blurry but that's just me

NOTE: Having just looked around on Google... I found MANY threads that using the Dell drivers WILL cause blurryness and the solution is to grab them from Intel's website (I assume it is intel drivers)

(generic Intel drivers for the Mobile Intel 965 Express chipset found on the Intel website)

hi akashj,

thanks for your input.

i have looked into the system's device manager and under the screen adators, i have found

Mobile Intel 965 Express chipset

added to the list.

however, i noticed that there are 2 drivers added with the same name, could this be any problem?

please can you advise how to check Clear Type setting?

thanks

What do you mean added to the list?  Was it not installed before?

The reason you have two from memory is one is your laptop display, the other is your VGA output so it's nothing to worry about

Clear Type: Right click on desktop>Properties>Appearance tab>Effects button
Top option is what you want

i guess i have installed this manually when i was installing all the rest of the drivers... am not sure though..

i have looked into clear type settings

i had "Fade Effect" selected in the "use the following transition effect for menus and tooltips"

i have unticked this box as it was on my other XP machine

still no luck...

Crap sorry, its the second option which has Clear or Standard

I would still strongly advise upgrading drivers from Intel's website and not the Dell ones

ok thanks, let me delete old drivers and get the new ones from here

http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-022768.htm

please can you advise which driver should i download?

thanks

Commented:
I'll check the site out in a bit, just tied up at the moment
By the way, just found this article on an intel forum which may just prevent you having to take this step
Let me know the outcome

Bug:
Apparently you need to change the Intel properties from Full Screen to Center Desktop. It is under the Intel Icon in the control panel. Click on Aspect Ration Options.

I have now manage to try to change from full screen to centered

apparently its still the same...its not sharp black...

very dull really...

please advise

Commented:
ok last step is the driver then
From looking on a few forums, the GM965 is what your Dell inspiron 1525 uses so grab that one and let me know

hi

do you advise me to delete both the drivers listed under screen adapters and then add the new drivers?

or just any one?

please advise

thanks

Commented:
You should not need to delete/remove any
Once downloaded, just use the exe setup/install file

If that does not work, you can right click on the drivers under display adap. and update driver
I dont know what happens if you remove it but try and not do this as the worst case scenario is you lose display altogether until you reboot and it redetects it

The Intel drivers are usually good in that they have a exe setup file so if you can, use that

i have swap the laptop with the PC and gave this to the user for now..

i am not sure how to resolve this, when i spoke to the dell support i have been asked to pay 39£ to resolve it online with their remote desktop assistance..

i think i may format the PC completely and try again...

thanks for your help though
