We are about to install  sql server 2005 sp3 on a cluster. The cluster is active passive node with SSRS installed in both the nodes.
My question is what impact its got on the SSRS when we install on the nodes.?Also do we need  to have downtime?

Note: We see  SSRS active on both nodes  at times even though one of them being passive.

    Accepted Solution

The SSRS is not cluster aware. That is why you see them active on both nodes. It's by design.

Now to the real question. Is it a upgrade to SP3 for your both nodes?
If so, run the SP3 on the active node, You will need to failover and restart both nodes when done. SP should be installed once per instance. Logical when you need a scenario with different SP on the same cluster.

Yes it will require downtime. In your case I would suggest that it's done under a maintenance time window, and that you test the clusters failover function after the upgrade.

If you want to install another instance with sp3, then thats another question. Please reply and I will answer.
