Windows 2000 cannot connect to printer on Server 08 64 bit

I have a new 64 bit 2008 server that was setup.  I have multiple clients from 2000, XP, and Vista connecting.  I've shared a printer and installed both the 32 and 64 bit drivers on the server.

The XP/Vista clients connect no problem and can print.

The 2000 clients get the error "you do not have access to this printer only the security tab will be displayed."

They are all part of the same group and have the exact same access.

I've deleted all the old connections and they have re-authenticated.

Just run peer to peer, no domain or AD.

I think i have had this problem before.  Try to add the printers using the add printer wizard instead of just connecting to them to add them.  Trust me it makes a difference.

Is there a reason that you have servers on a network and using ptp?  Im sure you will have permission problems all the time without using a domain...  You have too many points of failure.  Not sure.  :)

Yeah, running TS for some problematic applications which will now reside on the server.

Was running SBS2003 and upgraded for TS and most likely some virtualization in the future.

Can't edit...most of the printers are shared ptp however these two are scanner/copier/printer and need to talk back to the server in order to work for print/scan.

Problem solved...kind of.  All the 2000 boxes are going away in a week or so.  It gives them the error message, and they can't edit any settings in the printer control panel but if they print through an app, it works.

Good enough for a weeks time.
