Hello all, this may seem a silly question to some, but I've looking into Hosting my own simple file sharing server for the odd periods where I need to send a file without hassle, of creating username and passwords etc in a Sharepoint type program. I've very impressed with the site www.2shared.com, it's nice and simple and I've also thought about having some kind of retention on files that are uploaded to be deleted after a certain period. Does anyone know of any free software I can use??? Thanks

If your talking about setting up a simple website where you can host some files to download later there are few scripts out there to do so.

My personal favourite is w2box,

Another great one is directory listing which is very easy to use and install,

They both have live demos and can both upload and download content.

If you just want to set up a windows based super simple web server to share some files I use shttpd (which is now called mongoose)...
Let me know how you get along!
