Why does my pointer arrow (mouse) change into a weird grey/black blip on my screen?

I just purchased a Lenovo Idea Pad S 10.  For some reason, I may have a bug.  The pointer arrow occasionally changes to a small pixilated grey circle, with black swirls in it (sort of blip-like).  It's very weird, and a bit disturbing.  It's always the same size--never larger than the arrow.  I'm running Windows XP.   Has anyone else seen this?  How do I fix it?
Watch Question

Are you sure it is not a 'busy' mode thingy (like Vista) instead of the usual hourglass? Check the settings and see what the different 'icons' are for it

Nope. I don't think so.  I know what yuou're reffering to and that's definitely not it.
In this case, the arrow completely disappears and for a spit second, I can't scroll or move the pointer when then grey blip appears.  Could it be due to screen resolution?  The screen on this computer is 10 inches approximately..

Hmmmm.... might be the resolution, Can't hurt to change it and see.
Also look on Lenovo site for a newer driver.
It could also be something pegging the cpu for a couple of seconds, and interferring with it.
Try the System Monitor and see if the cpu  usage is jumping up and whatb is doing it.
You can also try:
Process Explorer

What's Running

to check it.

check the mouse software for it's settings, or in device manager- change the cursor shape for a test
I did small research - it does not look good.

All users that had those "circles" brought laptops back to Lenovo.

Great, thanks!  I'll send the laptop back for evaluation.
