Macromedia Flash 8 Button Hyperlink Problem

I have a simple button from the common library that has one keyframe in the timeline.  I have added the code below to the ActionScript however when I publish and click the button it doesn't work!  I have named the button OnButton if this makes any difference.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks.
on (press, release) {

	getURL("", "_self");

Open in new window

    that script seems to work fine on my end.
    but i would use press or release, having
    both there would let it run 2 times.

    when you press on it and when you release it

    OK, so I can see this works when I do a File - Publish Preview - Flash, however when I do a File - Publish Preview - HTML it doesn't work (which is all that I've been trying).  Yours doesn't work when I do a File - Publish Preview - HTML either!  Is this a glitch with Flash 8 do you know?

    Also, while I'm here, I can't open previous versions of .fla files that I had created in MX2004.  I'm now using Version 8 and it gives me an "Unexpected File Format error".  Is there any way around this or do I have to redo everything?  Many thanks.

    there is a bit more security on the flash players.
    so you can use the link when testing the fla.
    but if your trying to use it as an application
    you would need to export it as an exe file
    otherwise it would be blocked from opening
    links on the internet.

    have a look at this link.

    the file as is would work when you upload it to your server

    as for the mx2004 format. i cant help you with this one. been a while
    since i used those formats and i cant give you a good answer.

    i suggest you ask another question targeting the format issue directly
