how to check whether a xp product key is already in use or not

HI all,
ive recently found  a product key in the office for XP Pro and am wondering if theres a way to check if the key is already in use or not

and you can google for the Magic Jelly Bean for a tool to find out what is on your pcs themselves...

im not after using this product key, i just want to know if i have it as a spare if i need to install windows on another machine.

i just wanted to know if there was a tool that would check if its already in use

There's no tool I'm aware of which will scan your network and find the XP CD keys in use by every workstation. However, if you can visit each station in turn, you can make use of the Magic Jelly Bean tool (http://majorgeeks.com/Magical_Jelly_Bean_Keyfinder_d2612.html). This will scan each workstation you run it on and return the XP CD key, which you can then compare to the one you have and are checking.

ah right that answered my question then,

it could of been used on a computer that isnt here anymore though so i guess i will just find out when and if i use it
