Open source rules engines - java

Hi all,

I have to start to think about building a complex rules based settling engine.

(rules such as' if this stage = x and stage winner = xa then selection a = win, selection b = lose')

simple enough logic but could get very messy as the application grows. So i'm wondering if anybody has experience in using rules engines and can recommend any for this sort of thing. Ideally i want a main engine that can deal with any defined markets/selections, take in resulting parameters and use predefined logic to settle them.

Does anybody have suggestions?

Had a brief look and jrulesengine looks decent but would appreciate further advice.

thanks in advance

thanks - had seen that list but couldn't decide what was best for my app. Does anybody have any experience in using any of these?

Right so decided to use drools, has anybody any useful insight in this?

my approach is going to mean that i have a very large number of rules each time it is ran (possibly up to 1000) Does anybody know how this will effect speed?
