Exchange 2003 Server Micration

Hello,

I have an existing exchange 2003 sp2 server on windows 2003 sp2. I installed and configured another exchange server and added it to the exchange environment. I used the system manager to make sure all parameters are the same. I wouldliek to now start transferring users from the old server to the new.
How do I do this without impacting the users?

Also, I would like to transfer the public folders?

Thanks

you will need to Move mailboxes & you can schedule this process during Off hours ( If you have SP2 ). For Public Folders the Hiearchy will replicate automatically, however for contents you would need to add the new server in the replica list manually

I have moved a mailbox but when I connect with the client it cannot because it is setup to go to the old server. Do I need to manually change this?
As long as you moved the users with move mailbox then Outlook should redirect automatically. Even if you had a script that points the user at a specific server it would still redirect.

Have you run the Exchange best practises tool on the server to ensure that there is nothing wrong?

If you are intending to replace the original server then you may want to look at my migration guide: http://www.amset.info/exchange/migration.asp

I ran the exchange best practises and just moved my mailbox to the new server and it did not automatically redirect.

I will go through your migration guide to see what I could be missing.

I moved my bailbox back to the old server and opened my client and it does not redirect. Something is wrong.

I will go through your doc
I am still facing the same issue. All I did is the following

I installed and configured a new exchange server the same as the old.
Moved mailbox to new server. I opened the client and it does not connect to the new server. I had to manually go to the client desktop and change the account settings through the mail con in control panel.

Any ideas what is wrong?
If it works when you change Outlook manually then something isn't updating correctly. Could be a replication error. Do you have more than one domain controller?

Yes I have 2 in one site
but I have 5 dc's spread across multiple sites
