Recipient Policies

I want to know in the simplest terms, how to create a recipient policy that I can use to control the age of messages in users' mailboxes.  I have created a secondary policy with the correct age limits and filtered it to affect all users but it does not seem to actually do anything with the messages.

The report generated says it has moved them around but they still appear in the users' mailbox.

What you are referring to is creating a Mailbox Management policy. This is detailed in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319188.

Two points of note:

For the policy to actually do anything, you need to select the option to either 'Delete the message immediately' or move it to the Deleted Items folder. Ensure the policy isn't just generating a report.

Second, you then have to configure the Mailbox Management policy to actually run and do its job.
