Hi All,

Can someone detail a response on the below event log and these questions please. We are exporting data using a PDF printer prior to exporting public folders to PST.

However due to the amount of data in the folders outlook freezes (see event log error below)

Questions

1.      Is it ok to increase the number of objects?
2.      Can I increase for a single user only?
3.      How do I increase this value?
4.      What is the maximum I should make it?

This is Enterprise version of exchange 2003.

1. You can increase the connections limit on each of mentioned objects making sure that you have a good disk subsystem to handle the load on it.
2. No, it can not be increased per user or per database basis, it is a server wide setting that applies to every store you create or already created though may take some time to see the changes.
3. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830836 - follow the article to increase it.
4. Article explains the maximum limit as well.

let me know.

I have attempted to start the process however i cannot locate the MSExchangeIS Folder as described, any ideas? I will triple check while waiting for your response.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem

Thanks

Aalborg, above linked article states that you have to create it if it is not in place. Create a new key MaxObjsPerMapiSession and then the required object related DWORD Values.

The key MaxObjsPerMapiSession is not present by default.

M,

I have completed the steps, unless this flu is blinding me; do i have to restart the services for the change to take effect?

Aalborg

Commented:
This may take up to 2 hours approximately as the store cache is 2 hours by default. If you want to take this into effect immediately you can restart the System Attendant.

M,

Does the MaxObjsPerMapiSession relate to PST folders? I was thinking that if I exported the folders then had them PDF it would not have the "freeze" issue? any thoughts?

Re do of the above

M,

Does the MaxObjsPerMapiSession relate to PST folders at the client end?

I was thinking that if I exported the folders then had them PDF from the client it would not have the "freeze" issue?  due to the exchange server limit; any thoughts?

Aalborg

Commented:
That is correct. PSTs are totally independant storage folders. So if you export the Public folders into a PST and then run your PDF printer that should not cause any problems with the store conenctions.
Let me know if you need any other help. :)

M,

Due to the large nature of our (messy) public folders 500 was not enough to help, but using the PST method allowed me to move forward. I have almost completed exporting the Public Folders and will commence PDF'ing them; which has an additional side effect of including the attachments in with them for easier transfer to off site service staff.

Thanks for your input and followup, you reminded me why I pay the subscription here.
