Backup VMs to external hard drive on VMware ESXi 3.5 update3

HI

I want to add an external usb drive to my VMware ESXi 3.5 update3 host and download vms to external drive.

Please explain how i can do this

You can use the Beta version of the Veeam FastSCP tool to do this:

I dont want to copy data over network I want to connect external USB hard drive directly to vmware host

VMWare ESX doesn't really support USB hosts that well. If you are insistent on doing it that way, the only thing that you can do is to power off your ESX server when you want to do backups, boot up with a LiveCD of sorts and then backup your VM's that way.
I would recommend that you backup your VM's over the network.

I tried veeam FastSCP but when connecting to vmware host get error channel has been closed see attachment for error. I enabled SSH test with putty works great I also tried downloading my vm by shutting it down connect with VI client to host and click on database and download but get error I/O error logged in with root  please explain

Since you are you ESXi,are you using the Beta version of the Veeam Fast SCP tool? Only the beta copy supports ESXi at the moment ... the link to it is listed in my first post to you ...
