Internationalization problems with UTF8 IIS and custom errorpages...

We run sites in many different contries and now the time has come to
also include languages do not use the latin charset.

We then have to move to UTF8. So far no problems.

But or entire site structure is build around the custom 404 error page principle.
We use the path as a navigation/command variable , so for instance the page

www.site.com/james_bond does not exist but "redirects" to www.site.com/404.asp?command=look_up&variable=james_bond

However with UTF comes a whole bunch of characters like "M=F8:;>?548O" and when i try to write the query_string for
http://localhost/M=F8:;>?548O i simply get: "404;http://localhost:80/????????????".

All UTF characters is replaced by question marks.
How can i combat this?

If I understand the article correctly, to do this you need to encode the URL string on the client side before sending it to the server and then un-encode the string to get it into a variable that you can use.
In addition to this, you also need to modify the web.config to allow the site to properly handle UTF-8 encoding.

You did all these things and it still does not work?

This might help you out:

I just had a similar problem and I solved it by using "HTTP_URL" as opposed to "QUERY STRING".
