USERENT ERROR 1054

I have a server with multiple errors in the event log. The latest of which is userent, has caused the server to go off line. The DNS service will not start, antivirus will not start, .NET will not start, just to name a few. Can you please help me with this problem?
Looking at other posts, I've attempted to delete GUID entries for SBS$monitoring, etc.., but those entries don't even exist in the registry. I have updated my Broadcom NIC card to the latest drivers, still problem exists.

Let's start with the following

1.  If the DC is also a DNS server make sure the DC is using itself for dns resolution.  (Only use internal DNS servers in an AD environment
2.  Make sure the current chipset drivers are installed on the DC
3.  Make sure the Windows Time Service on the DC is set to Automatic and has started.
4.  Uninstall any third party firewall software.

If it's still failing run NETDIAG from the command-line and post the results.  You may need to download the server 2003 support tools first.

When I see 1054 event ID, I usually think a "multihomed server".

Thanks for the reply, will double check these settings. I tried to start some services which were not started, just to see what would happen. Distributed Link Tracking Server returned Error 0x800706b9, not enough resources are availble. DNS returned error 14, Automatic Updates: Error 0x8007277a, Panda Security also errored. So basically all services that are currently not running, return an error.
I've got copies of log files in .evt format. Can you read those files or do they need to be in .txt format?

I ran the netdiag utility with the results posted below. A simple "order" of processes to complete would help me greatly.

Your having DNS and netbios issues:

Let's first work with DNS:

It looks like you need to register your DNS SRV records for the DC.

Go to the command prompt and type:
Ipconfig /flushdns
Ipconfig /register DNS
Net stop netlogon
Net start netlogon

For Netbios:
Go to the NIC configuration>>TCP/IP properties>>advanced button>>WINS tab and make sure netbios over TCP/IP is turned on.

Then go to the main menu for your nic configuration and make sure file and printer sharing is enabled.

finally go to the command prompt and type:

NBTSTAT -rr

Run a DCdiag again and lets see if we progressed.

Well, netbios is back up, or so it seems:

What is wrong with the gateway? It appears like you may have a client or another node with the gateway IP or the gateway IP is incorrect.

Try Ping -a 192.168.1.254

and see if a client node seems to have that IP, It should return the netbios name of the node with that IP as its IP.

Can't start the netlogon service is something we need to address as well.

Without it, you will have a problem with the DC:

The workstation service is needed to run the Netlogon service:

Go to START>>RUN>> and type Services.msc

Scroll down to the netlogon service and make sure it is set to Automatically start instead of disabled.

Then scroll down further to the Workstation service to see what the status of that service is. It also needs to be set to automatic and started.

If either of those were corrected. go to the command prompt and type:
Net stop netlogon
Net start netlogon

Then reboot the DC.

Net stop netlogon reports the service is not started, when starting it, Error 10106 is reported.
When pinging, Destination Host is unreachable.
I found a thread about the Error 10106 and am pasting below for your review. Before doing this, I wanted your advice.
Run "winmsd" and go to Components/Network/Protocol. Look at the
names in the list, anything with "MSAFD" in it or the "RSVP xxx Service
Provider" should be fine. Anything else is suspect, and uninstalling the
owning program might help.

If that fails or your provider list is empty, you may need to rebuild the
catalog from scratch. The following instructions will rebuild your catalog
for TCP/IP. If you are using any other transports (If you don't know, then
you probably aren't) then you will have to reinstall them as well.

1. Backup and delete the following registry keys

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2

2. Reboot

3. Go to the network connections folder, right click the icon for your
network connection, and select properties.

4. Click install, choose "protocol", and click "add..."

5. Click "Have Disk...", enter "\windows\inf", click OK

6. Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click OK

7. When the process in complete, reboot

What about using winsockxpFix.exe? Does that seem like a safe and viable solution?

I think we should concentrate our efforts on finding out about the gateway. Let's go to the command prompt and type.

NBTSTAT -a xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP of your gateway. I think you may have a node with the same IP as your Gateway/router.

Looks like your router may have lost its settings:

take a client machine and change its IP to 192.168.1.10 with a default gateway of 192.168.1.1. Open a browser on that client and type in http://192.168.1.1

Enter your admin username and password to configure the router. Change the IP settings to the default gateway of your LAN Gateway.  Log off and change your client's IP back to the IP it once had on your LAN, or elect to get DHCP again. If DHCP, go to the command prompt of the client and type IPconfig /release and IPconfig /renew. That renews the IP from DHCP.

Since trying everything..... finally decided to format the drive and re-install sbs2003.
Everything went great until trying to name the server. The setup still recognized the old server name as being on the network and would not let me give the same name. None of the wizards work to add computers, users, internet connection setup, rww or anything. When I look at the server computers - it shows the old one and not the new one.
Any ideas as to why this is happening, or what I can do to fix this darn thing?!
