GroupWise time settings

I was working with someone on their GroupWise email server and they told me something that I thought was a bit strange. He said that the Time and daylight savings time settings can be changed in GroupWise, which could be different than what the PC or Netware says the time and time zone is. Is this true? I thought GroupWise got its time from Netware and I did not think it was independant.

Please confirm for me how GroupWise gets its time and if it can be set independantly from Netware or the server it is installed on.

GroupWise does maintain it's own time zone settings. This isn't all that strange really, most email servers give you the option of specifying time zones settings.

The base time is derived from the server's time, which hopefully is being synced with a reliable NTP source on a regular basis. But the time zone and daylight savings time values are configured in the the GW Domain and PO objects in ConsoleOne.

This makes sense if you think about it. A GroupWise post office might serve users in a different time zone than the server itself is physically located in.  Remember that GroupWise is designed to handle very large populations spread over long distances. There can even be multiple GroupWise post offices on one machine.
