Windows cannot find C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE

I have scoured google for a solution but cannot seem to resolve
If i try to run Internet Explorer i get:
---------------------------
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE
---------------------------
Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
So I read this is spyware and ran spybot which did find a few issues including some relevant BHO's that I beleive we to do with the issue. It removed all these and I restarted.
I removed IE from the add remove windows compnenets and the reinstalled
I also ran the latest IE7 update multiple time, still no luck
I recent spybot scan found no errors and my Hicjack log looks clean (available if requested)
I also found some vbs script to initiate re-insall of IE whereby I have to point to numerous
system files that it looks for when re-installing at the end it says:
---------------------------
RUNDLL
---------------------------
Error in iesetup.dll
Missing entry:IEAccessSysInst
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I have already covered this issue at:

If you have not already done this you should install and repair your OS from the WIndows CD.

Are you talking about sfc /scannow ? or a windows repair, can you be more specific

A windows repair.  You will have to boot from your Windows Cd.  Go to the second install screen and select repair.

It seems a bit off a Hammer to pin approach which I only like using if I cannot resolve the problem any other way. It normally screws up windows updates.
I keep my machine highly customised and would not want to do this unless I really had to

This could be the answer to every windows problem and does not really warrant the points.
Is there nothing more insightful you can offer?

Thanks for your time

Have you tried perfoming system restores?

There is probably some registry corruption.  I had another EE member with a similar problem  In the end, he contacted MS to fix his registry.  They told him that an install and repair as I have suggested would have been faster to fix this issue.  9 out of 10 times it is the issue.

You may not think it is insightful but here is the URL I speak of.... http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Windows/XP/Q_24142720.html

Okay resolved thanks to pointed link

I ran the AutoRuns (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx)

I looked under the image hijacks tab and found an entry for

iexplore.exe - file not found c:\windows\system32\klomp.exe

I unticked this and closed the program, tried to run IE and it loaded straight away!

A handly little APP which I never knew about and may find useful in the future

Thanks
