I need a handy way to make sure images used in FrameMaker 8 docs are EMBEDDED, not referenced. File > Import File does not embed.

FrameMaker 8 software provides the capability to embed U3D and SWF files and you can also Embed graphics references from a URL or directory path.

It might be best to, that is if your not using these formats, convert them to an embeddable format and try it that way.

I am only concerned with .gif and .jpg images.

I have no idea what you mean by "an embeddable format."

I am well aware of referencing from a URL or directory path. That is exactly what I do NOT want. I want the image permanently and irriducibly embedded in the .fm document, which is to say, independent of any and all references.

I suspect this site will prove useless for FrameMaker.

You cannot permanently embed an image in Framemaker as far as I know. The only page layout program that could ever do that was Pagemaker, and it was problematic at best.

    1) Just because you don't like the answer doesn't mean it isn't the correct answer.
    2) I might not be an 'expert' in Framemaker, but I have at least 5 years experience trying to process Framemaker files for commercial printing - The GPO (Government Printing Office) has a lot of Gov't groups that use Framemaker and we were the 'lucky' recipient of bids on jobs that included Framemaker.
    3) I have over 15 years experience working with all of the other major Page layout applications and Pagemaker was the ONLY one that ever allowed you to do this.
    4) The proof is in the pudding - how do you expect me to prove it otherwise? Pull up screen captures of Framemaker showing what you already know? googling embedding images in Framemaker?
    5) The 'Strength' or main selling point of Framemaker was that it could allow multiple users to access the same document and edit it at the same time. Allowing for embedding the images would make it (more) cumbersome and unwieldly and doubtlessly cause more system problems and crashes, hence, that is why the did not even bother trying to allow for that feature - they had already learned their lesson with Pagemaker.
The answer is no, and i answered your question truthfully and honestly. You should aware the points.
