sql server mirroring is in suspended state. how to make it resume

sql server mirroring is in suspended state.
the secondary server went down due to io issues and after it came up. the mirroring is in suspended state.
however the logshipping has resumed with out any issues.
I have tried to click on resume from primary but it didnot hellp either.
how can i resume the suspended mirrroring status onthe server.
