Create a custom installer program

This quite a high level question.  I've used programs in the past which ask for specific questions during the installation phase.

I'm creating a program where I will need to carry out some custom actions during the installation phase (or failing this run some code the first time the program starts)

Does anybody know what this type of action is called; any links to articles would also be appreciated.

I've done a bit of research and the only thing I can find is something called a 'Installer Class not sure if this is what I'm after.

You will be looking for something like WIX. This ships with Visual Studio now.

You will need to investigate custom actions. here is head start

Installer class is very powerful.  You can pretty much do anything in an installer class you can do in any other windows .NET class.

You might also want to look into Nullsoft Scriptable Install System.  THis is a very powerful and easy to use install system.
