KILL ROOT PROCESS

NEWBIE HERE.  MANUAL SAYS NEVER KILL ROOT PROCESS.  DOES THIS APPLY TO ANY PROCESS RUNNING FROM ROOT OR JUST PROCESS 1 OR 0?

well, I am not sure if you can as root kill processes 0 or 1. Those processes that are run by root as system processes you should not try to kill them with kill command unless system manuals say that you can. Most of system processes have their own start and stop commands or scripts. Other processes that you run as root e.g. a web server (this is an example only since normally web server is not run as root user), can be killed using kill command. Also, some processes like data  base processes should not be killed directly with kill command and should be stopped using the right commands or tools.

What manual do you read? You can kill any process that you run from root user. It is dangerous if you kill system process, but if you know what you 'kill' you can use it.

THANKS FOR YOU HELP - MY QUESTION OBVIOUSLY WASN'T CLEAR, BUT YOU ANTICIPATED MY FOLLOWUP.  THE MANUAL WAS ACTUALLY A SIMPLIFIED SET OF INSTRUCTIONS FOR SHUTDOWN PROCEDURES WITH A WARNING NOT TO KILL THE ROOT PROCESS WHEN KILLING OTHER PROCESSES PRIOR TO SHUTDOWN
