outlook 2007 inbox view does not refresh when new mail is received

I have a laptop running Outlook 2007 and when new email is downloaded from a pop3 mailbox, Outlook shows 1 new item on the inbox folder but the new email does not show up until the user clicks on a different folder and then clicks back on the inbox.  Then the new email is shown in the inbox.
This user does have an IPhone and uses ITunes to sync calander with Outlook.  Other users running Outlook 2007 do not have this issue.
Windows XP Pro, Office 2007 Pro

Any help is appreciated.

Hello cja-tech-guy,

1. Reset the Outlook toolbar template. With Outlook close, do a search for and rename outcmd.dat file. Restart Outlook. Do the same for outlprnt file.

In Windows XP Outcmd.dat is located in C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder. In Windows Vista, file is located in C:\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook folder. It is a hidden file, so you have to unhide hidden files. Go to any folder and select Tools > Folders Options > View. Check "Show hidden files and folders". Click OK.

2. Register an important Outlook files. If using Windows XP, go to Start > Run and type regsvr32 OLE32.DLL and hit OK.

If using Vista and you get an error, run regsvr32.exe from an elevated command prompt. To get an elevated command prompt, right-click on the "Command Prompt" shortcut and select "Run as Administrator".

3. If no joy, an addin could be corrupt. Disable Outlook Addins.  Go to Tools > Trust Center > Add-Ins disable the addins.

If Outlook does not open, go to Start > Run - and type outlook /safe

4. Check if an external program running in the background is interfering with Outlook. Check Firewall, antivirus and other security programs, Yahoo and Google toolbars, and desktop search programs. Disable these programs one at a time.

5. On the Help menu, click Office Diagnostics. > Continue > Start Diagnostics

6. Create a new Outlook profile.

7. If no joy, reinstall Outlook.  Go to Add/Remove Programs and highlight Microsoft Office. Click on Install/Uninstall.  A menu will pop allowing you to choose repair or reinstall.

Hope this helps!

Do you think it could be the ITunes add-in?  That is the only difference between this machine and others that do not have this issue.  Do you know anything about the ITunes add-ins which are ITunes Outlook Add-in and Outlook Change Notifier.
I am going to apply service pack 1 and see if that helps.
thanks

ITunes addin could cause the problem.  Temporarily disable it and test.

Check that you have SP1 installed:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9EC51594-992C-4165-A997-25DA01F388F5&displaylang=en

Then close Outlook and Restart Using
Start>Run>outlook.exe /cleanviews

Close and Restart Outlook using
Start>Run>outlook.exe /cleanrules

Using these two command line switches all custom rules and views in Outlook will be reset.
Mail should now arrive as it normally would.

If you had any custom rules or views set-up, you can go back and recreate them as needed.

Installing SP 1 and running clean rules and clean views did not work.  I even uninstalled Google Desktop but that did not help either. Any other ideas welcome.
I can't create a new profile becasue Outlook is set to leave mail on the pop3 server for 20 days, because this user has an IPhone and if the mail is removed from the server it disappears from the IPhone.  If I create a new profile in Outlook it is going to bring down all the email from the last 20 days and that would not be good.  any way to create a new profile that knows what mail has been downloaded already?

It was Google Desktop.  Even though I disabled the addin for it.  Removing Google Desktop completely fixed the problem.  Thanks
