MSExchangeIS problems.

I swapped out a bad HDD and while it was rebuilding I installled all the MS updates - including Service Pack 2. I got everything back up and running except the external email is not running. I had three alerts pop up: MSExchangeIS is Start pending; W3SVC is Stop Pending; and, TermService is Stopped. I went to the View Services/Server Management Monitoring and Reporting taskpad to see if I could fix these problems and when I tried to start MSExchangeIS I got the following error message, "Windows could not start Microsoft Exchange Information Store on local computer". The other two services were not even listed in the taskpad. Internal email works fine but external email is not happening. Please help.

Run the SBS best practises tool on the machine to begin with and see whether that flags anything.
Reboot the server and see if anything is logged in the event viewer of any interest.
