I have used gmail notifier for almost a year now, and just recently I formatted my PC.. i installed all my apps and whatnot, and the only thing left was this little email tool.. so i installed it, and after clicking "remember my pw", it forgets it whenever i log off or even restart!  I never had this problem before, and i'm not sure what to do.. I provided a screenie below..

I search EE before posting, and i found 2 similar posts, one answer was that IE7 was the culprit, and the user reverted to IE6 and it worked. I am already with IE6 (XP MCE SP3), so there has to be another solution. The other post suggested the user clear his browser cookies, and then save the password and it worked for him. Unfortunately, i cleared both IE and ffx and it still won't remember.

Thanks in advance!

Hello KTrandy,

Change the login name on Notifier from username to full email address.

Download a fresh version of Gmail Notifier.  You may have a corrupted setup file or outdated version.

Hope this helps!

Hello war1,

Thanks for the quick response. I believe you were one of the people I mentioned earlier in my post who had a problem with it. I was originally logging in with only my name, but now I added the @gmail.com extension and clicked the save password button, but it still didn't remember it after logging off. I am also using the current version from Google's website (1.0.25.0). I reinstalled it, but no luck. I thought maybe it had something to do with logging off and on, but I guess I was wrong too. I saved the password, right clicked the icon, exited it, and started it again from the Start Menu, and the password was gone.. hmm

You said the problem occurs both with IE6 and Firefox?  Does IE6 have problem remembering other login password?

Check if a security program is deleting cookies or not letting you remember password. Temporarily turn off antivirus, antispyware and firewall one by one and test.

Hm that's not what I meant, exactly. When I read a similar topic on EE, the user solved his problem by clearing IE's cookies. I cleared both IE and ffx (the only 2 browsers installed on my system, since I wasn't sure where Gmail Notifier stores the password), and it didn't work. As for IE remembering passwords, I rarely use IE, but I just logged into hotmail, selected save password, closed the browser, logged off then back in, and went to hotmail.com and it took me straight to my inbox, which I guess indicates that it can remember passwords. Windows Live Messenger also has no trouble rememebering my password.

Lastly, I have no antivirus software installed yet, I don't plan on using antispyware, and my current running firewall is the built-in Windows Firewall.

When you log into Gmail webmail, did you check the box "Remember me on this computer"?  You have do that on each browser that you use.

If no joy, then the problem is with Gmail Notifier. Try using Google Toolbar to remember Gmail login.

PROBLEM SOLVED! yay!

I had a feeling it would be something small, which would seem stupid, but is significant in its own way.

As I mentioned earlier, I rarely use IE, So I opened it up, went to gmail.com, logged in, saved the password there (since it is already saved in firefox), and tada! it works..

There's 500 points for you to enjoy, my friend.

Thank you, once again.
