How do I merge catalog in Arcserve 12 from disk staging / not tape.

I am using CA Arcserve 12 to backup to disk then to tape (D2D2T). When I chose a restore, I get an error that the session has no details, Do you want to merge the session now?

I understand how to do this from tape, but can it be done from the disk staging? Our tapes are offsite and I would like to be able to restore a file without pulling the tapes back in house.

you dont need to perform a merge of the FSD untill and unless the data has been purged(removed)

Go to the location where FSD is pointed and check if there are any sessions, also check your backup job staging policy.

Incase you find data on FSD, go to quick start/database/media records and delete any entries pertaining to that FSD, and then go quick start/utilities and perform merge of the FSD

After successful merge you will be able to see the contents that can be restored.

hope this helps

the process of merge is same for tapes & staging enabled file-system device.

go to Quickstart - Utilities - Merge
choose the FSD being used as Disk staging area
you can choose to merge all sessions or a specific session number

in case the sessions you are looking for have already been purged from the staging area (depeding on your staging - purge policy), then you will need to bring back the tapes.
