How do I fix Windows XP log off immediately after loging on problem

My computer is login off immediately after login on. It boots without any problem up to the login window. When I under the user name it logs, you see the desktop flash for a split second and then it logs off.

Are both computers connected and powered on?

Can you ping the faulty computer and get a successful response?

SheilsAuthor Commented:
Yes both are powered on.
I don't know how to ping the other computer but I did manage to switch on the firewall of the faulty computer from a magic network program that were previously installed on both computer.
