How do I incorporate one of those "within X miles of my zipcode" things?

I'm making a job board for my school.  When a student searches for a job, the location of the job is important.  I would like to ask them for their zip code and ask how far they are willing to travel - like you see on other job sites.

Any ideas on this?

I figure I have to pick up some database file with the distance information in it.

I haven't started that part yet, but I'm about to.

Thanks very much.  Yes, it is for US locations only.  Actually very local... we probably only need about 3 counties worth of information.

The solution you offered looks excellent, but costs money as I thought it might.  There is no budget here.

Thank you again.  I will accept your solution although I have not implemented it yet.  I downloaded the free zipcode database and should be able to make it work even though I'm writing in VB and the article is in CSharp.  I'll come back to it another time.  Thank you very much.
