SBS + NT backup issue - blank log section?

Dear Gang,

Yet another headache from NTbackup... can anyone shed light on this? The job runs to my tape drive. It runs fine when launched manually.  It began failing after i filled a tape a few weeks ago, I replaced the tape and ran manually... i've rerun the  backup setup, and... well let's just say it: NTbackup stinks on ice.

--------- logfile snippet  -----------------

Found a tape media type in the library (4mm DDS).
Launching NTBackup: ntbackup.exe backup "@C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Backup\Small Business Backup Script.bks" /d "SBS Backup created on 2/20/2009 at 11:00 PM" /v:yes /r:no /rs:no /hc:on /m normal /j "Small Business Server Backup Job" /l:s /p "4mm DDS" /UM
NTBACKUP LOG FILE: C:\Documents and Settings\SBS Backup User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data\backup05.log
=====================<BEGIN NTBACKUP LOG FILE>=====================
=======================<END NTBACKUP LOG FILE>=====================
NTBackup finished the backup with errors.

--------- logfile snippet  -----------------

The tape drive passed Dell's "X-talk management console" (http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R141420&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=188913 ) testing. Any suggestions will be appreciated

let start from these steps

1) check if you able to format,erase media through disk managment
2) are drivers upto date for the tape autoloader
3) do we have latest patches/updates/service packs installed for windows SBS?
4) i am sure you would have checked this website however have a glance

hope this helps

Thanks for the response.  I covered all those except number one, but ah, we know the tape & drive work, it completes and passes verification when run manually. I could see trying that after launching the computerManagement mmc as "SBS backup user", but i've seen this on other boards. The only possible solutions i haven't tried are ripping and re-installing the tape machine drivers, and/or NTbackup
Reinstalling tape drivers might work but how about setting up a ntbackup job through command prompt?
Workarounds are not really what i was after. I can already launch the job manually and have it complete, so i have a workaround. Thanks for the effort.
