How can I reinstall wins xp use old harddrive?

My motherboard died,harddrive should be ok,I try to connect  that HD to other Pc and use that windows xp cd to recover the root files"can I do that?" then on the screen I press "R",it ask me administrator password,but I didn't create before,what I can do now?

-you can recover the files with a recovery CD.  You may need to re-activate windows with the new mobo.  As for the admin password, even though you dont have it it seems your SAM file may think you do.  Get a copy of ultimate boot disk, burn it to cd and boot into that.  there is a password changing tool on there that you can reset the password to blank for the admin account.
