Hi,

I had to uninstall MySQL to install Apache 2.0 and PHP 5.28 first. My reinstall of Mysql 5.1 didn't work and appears I still had reminants of MySql 5.0. So I unistalled MySQL and deleted folders and registry entries of MYSQL but I cannot remove the services that still stay out there after uninstall and cleaning up folders and registry,

The MySql reconfiguration wizard sometimes sees old service out there so can remove but not second time I tried to reinstall.  I am running Vista Home Premium.

Thanks

I assume you have uninstalled MySQL and deleted the folders manually...then you can delete the service entry by

sc delete [service name]

If the MySQL service name has space in it then use double quotes

sc delete "mysql server"

or if no space

sc delete MySQL

Hi,

yes I unistalled and deleted folders and registry entries

sc delete returns  the specified service does not exist as installed service

sc delete on a second Mysql service named different returns ope service faile 5, access denied

Hi,

The services are set at manual and no current state such as started.  The option to stop is grayed out. Cannot be started as installation associated with them are gone therefore assuming service is not active.

Did you try from command line

sc stop service_name

also, once you delete manually(thru registry) and or by commans line..make sure you restart machine... and check if still the service exists...

Hi,

I looked through MySql online documentation and found one more spot in registry where the services are located. Then had to restart machine as you mentioned.
