I think you are limited only by the amount of writeable disk that your exchange box or backend server is limited to.  Here is a link to some basic exchange info that might be helpful.

is there any standard are Recommended  size to be allocated to the Public folder   if yes what size ?
eg ,if i creating "finance' as public folder  when user stored more than 2 Gb data , wheter it will be easier to acess the public folder ? i am asking this because i have store 2 .8 gb data to one of my public folder its gets hanged frequently.
do you receive the following or similar messages:

This public folder has exceeded one or more size limits set by your administrator.
The public folder size is 152799 KB.
Public Folder size limits:
You will receive a warning when this public folder reaches 50000 KB.You may not be able to send or receive new mail until you reduce the size of the public folder. To make more space available, delete any items that you are no longer using.
See client Help for more information.

or how does your system hang?????  does the folder dismount?
Have you had any luck on this one yet?
Just checking back to see your status.

Let me know if you need anything.
