Why is dual display not available? Windows XP SP3 MSI Nvidia GeForce 8600GT

I am running a Dell Dimension 9200, Core 2 Duo 6600 2.4 with 4GB RAM. I have tried two different video cards that support dual display, and with both only one monitor is seen in display properties and also in the Nvidia software. I used Nvidia's latest greatest drivers in both cases, and reverted back to the Windows drivers each time to clear everything out.

The first was a 7300, and the one I really want to work is an MSI Nvidia GeForce 8600GT. Both work fine, but there is no second display available. I have confirmed that both monitors are working, they are Dell 2407WFP's.

Attached are screenshots of my Nvidia CP, and Windows display CP.

Just curious... are both of the connected monitors LCD? Are they each set for DVI Input? If not, have you used the DVI to VGA adapter and set the other to analog input via the front panel?

Both are identical LCD's, both are on DVI input. I have not tried the VGA adapter on the 8600GT card, but the 7300 that I tried actually has one VGA and one DVI output, and that did not work.

Try this:
- Uninstall your Nvidia Software
- Open device Manager> View > Show Hidden devices (or something)
  - Remove All Monitors
  - Remove All vga card-drivers
- Shutdown your machine
- Disable onboard vga-card/remove the vga-card your not gonna use
- After that boot your machine, Replace the auto-detected drivers with the one you got with the card or go to the manufacturer website, the latest Nivdia are rarely the best to install

Ps. Sometimes with nvidia, you have to repate the process to make it work, don't ask why..
