Recommendations on a backup process or software that provide over the internet backups.

I am looking for a backup process or software that can provide backups across the internet.
I would need to backup data once a week from sites that use either dsl, cable, T1s, or partial T1s.

These backups would need to be automated.
I know logmein has a backup product.
Has anyone had good success with it for scenarios like the above?

depends on how much data and how fast your upload speed is.

1) Also what about encryption ?
2) How long to do a data recovery ?

I would use this in addition to Local backups and not instead of.

Do a google search for online backups and there are tons of vendors.

I hope this helps !

Make a script that make a ZIP (better yet 7zip) arhive and then transfer it over the Internet using Secure FTP or SSH. This is compressed (so, faster) and also safe, if you use SFTP or SSH. WinRAR is also very good if you want to make incremental and/or differential backups to minimize traffic.

You can then use Windows task scheduler to run these scripts automatically

Our small sites have less than a give and the data was able to be transferred across the web in about 30 minutes.

I transferred 2 gigs of data in about 8 hours.
12 gigs of data says it will take several days.
Our larges sites have around 150 gigs of data.
We currently have the remote sites backup to a removable drive  cd, dvd, or tape on a daily basis.

Hm. Backup over the Internet really doesn't seem to be well suited for this volume of data. You should perhaps continue to back up data on-site using tapes or maybe external drives. For the most important data, if you can decide and agree with your coleagues on what that is, and if it's relatively small in size, you could back it up using online transfer.

In my company the source codes are relatively small in size and that's kind of data I do back up using additional methods just to be safe. Other less important data can be backed up to tape or ext. drives.
