Why do some installations of Acrobat Reader make text all black?

We have some PDFs that display text as black blobs only on some Reader installations.  On most, they work fine.  Unfortunately, I do not have a screen shot to share at the moment.  But, the PDFs are from various sources: Excel, an ESRI PDF export, and others.  So, I'm thinking it must be something with the Reader installation itself.  I'll attach one of the occasionally misbehaving PDFs.  Ideas?

Interesting.  Most of this doesn't apply or has been tried, but we'll try the graphic acceleration idea.
No joy here.  We've also tried all of the other relevant suggestions on this page.  I did, however, just find out it's Acrobat Pro and not Reader.  Of any use?
Not really the answer, but I don't want to let this issue dangle out there for much longer.  I think the tech has also moved on to other projects.
