Enviornmental Monitoring Device

We recently had an issue in our server room where the power went out briefly on the weekend and when it came back on the ACs in the room did not turn back on.  When I got in on Monday I found the server room pretty warm.

I asked who we usually purchase from for a solution that could simply monitor the room and email me when it goes above a certain temperature.   I was quoted the following:

APC ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGER - $380
http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=AP9340

I mentioned that it seemed more advanced that our need.  She told me there isnt much of anything cheaper than this as a self contained unit.

Two questions:

1) Is this a reasonable price for this item?
2) Is there another solution that might fit our need better and be cheaper?

Thanks in advance

Could run an snmp monitoring tool that would email alerts, such as IPMonitor or Solarwinds to name a few.

To clarify, I want to monitor the room's temperature, not the actual machines.

I actually had the uptime info flagged in my email to purchase then I saw yours.   I am in the process of order your suggestion because it seems so simple.
http://isatec.co.uk/temp-lert-usb/ Looks like the one you might want, seems the cheapest
