The outlook.xml file gets corrupt.
You can find it at C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
close outlook
Delete the outlook.xml file (or make a backup copy of it) It will re-create it.
restart outlook.
reinstall your favorite.
close outlook and restart it to see if it stayed this time.

Hello AgapeInstruments,

Select Go (in upper menu bar), then Mail, and THEN open the navigation pane, where the Favorite
Folders will be found.

Here are ways to restore your Favorites

Hope this helps!

You can also do a search for OUTLOOK.XML and make sure you have the search engine look for hidden files.  Then delete it.

This was a known issue in 2007 and should have been fixed in SP1:

Check that SP1 is installed.

None of the above items corrected my problem. I still can not get Favorites to be created. I am trying to create a favorite of a item in a Public Folder. I had this created at one time and it dissappeared one day. Since then I can not recreate this Public Folder item as a favorite.

If SP1 is installed then consider the following Known issue and resolution in 2003 and 2007:

Outlook Quick Tip: Disappearing Favorites

We see a lot of complaints that folders added to the Favorite Folders section of Outlook2003/2007's navigation bar disappear when Outlook is restarted. This happens because the XML file that controls the Navigation pane is corrupt, often because an add-in or utility keeps Outlook open after you close it. As noted in last week's issue, Outlook 2007 SP2 will address shut down issues.

The quick fix is to restart Outlook using the /resetnavpane switch but if the problem continues, you should try a new profile.

To start Outlook using the switch, at Start menu run (Windows XP) or in the Start search field (Vista) type
Outlook.exe /resetnavpane
