i have 2 citrix ps4.5 servers patched on 10/26/07 with pse450w2k3r01 patches. I have an old SQL 2000 server that is end of life and would like to move the metaframe db that resides in the SQL 2000 server to a new server with SQL 2005. I also have to change the password because the 2000 server had a user of sa and no password and now the sa user has a password in the 2005 environment. Both SQL servers are Windows 2003.  I realize i need to change server name in dsn, etc and have seen lots of varying descriptions on how to do this, has anyone done this and have specific steps they know have worked? or at least exact steps on how this should be done in my scenario, I am not a SQL guru by any streach of the word and just need steps to complete that are concise as possible.  thanks for your time!

The SQL 2005 server does not allow for empty password so you have to set a password.

Here are some steps I used to migrated my SQL DB from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005.

1)  Create a back up for old DB
2)  Move the back up DB file from SQL 2000 server to SQL 2005 and restore it
3)  Run these scripts in your query analyser (SQL 2005) to find any orphan left by the migration
exec sp_change_users_login 'report'   --- This will display a list of the orphan

exec sp_change_users_login 'auto_fix', 'sa',null,'password' -- sa is the user account and password must meet the requirement of new SQL 2005 so it will be something like this (exec sp_change_users_login 'auto_fix', 'sa',null,'IMig@#Sql2000ToSql2005')

4) Change the username and password in your Citrix configuration file.

hopefully you can get this to work!
