Create a custom Service on Windows 2003

I have some software which needs ran 24/7. This software does not come as a service and requires the application to be open to function.

What is the best free way to make this run as a service.

There is utility srvany.exe

With Srvany, you can configure any Windows application so that it runs as a service.

I had the same problem.  A poorly written application I use needs a user to be logged into the server at all times in order for the application to work.  I have the machine AutoAdminLogon, I loaded the application in the startup group as well as a link to lock the computer on startup.
