Cant reconnect mailbox in exchange

I have an sbs2003 server.  I had to delete a user,
I re created a new user and I want to reconnect the deleted mailbox to this user.
I ran the clean up agent and i have option to reconnect.
However, when i go to search for user etc, they dont appear,
I changed the Object type and location but no users appear.
I only get a list of the following:
power user, administrator, backup user, guest etc.....
but no users.
Hope someone can help here?

So you removed the user from Exchange, then you remove the user from AD.

Wait until replication has done, if so wait 1HR and create user again in AD, once done wait few minutes and create email address for user.
If you cannot create user - user allready exist please check event logs and post here.
