ASKER

unfortunately they wont talk to me because the Inspiron is out of warranty
It seems that other people have had the same issue. A new battery did not make any difference. It is probably the power adapter plug on the main board that is damaged or a connection has broken loose. If it is still under warranty, call Dell tech support. If not, find a reputable repair company to fix it or replace the main board.

Fantastic. I am glad that it was a simple fix. The boards are full of this issue due to a bad connection on the mother board. It is a very expensive fix. Have a good one!
