I want to push the rktools.exe software to my users via gpo. Is there an msi package available or do I have to somehow convert this exe?

I thought the rktools.exe already contains the .msi? When you run it does it unpack to a temp folder?

If not you should be able to extract it separately like this

Don't forget you also need to copy the help files (.chm & .xml) in the .cab file to the windows help folder

So it does! I see that it extracted an msi file and a couple of cab files. Do I need these cab files? Is there anything special I need to do to this msi file before it works in a gpo?

One of the cabs contains the help files I mentioned - I can't remember what the other does(!)  The quickest way to find out  would be to try the GPO on a test box and see if everythnig runs after the install.  I'll have a quick hunt about installation.

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

Here's a script that should silently install rktools
start /wait %systemdrive%\install\rktools.msi /Qb
copy %systemdrive%\install\rktools.chm %systemdrive%\windows\help\
copy %systemdrive%\install\rktools.xml %systemdrive%\windows\help\

So I got the msi to be available via the GPO's. I can go to Add/Remove Programs and I can see it when I select "Add New Programs". Does this script take care of these steps? It seems like the paths would need to be different. Is there a way to make their installation automatic if that's not the case?

If you've dropped the files into %systemdrive%\install\ then the script should run the install

I tried that script and I substituted the path you specified to a path that contains the msi file. Doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure I understand what it's supposed to do.

I see. It doesn't seem to like the "Q" switch. Says it's invalid. I tried to run without the switch and I just get another cmd window open but nothing happens. So this would be a way to install it if I didn't want to use the GPO's? I was wondering if there was a way to get it to automatically install once it's on the GPO. Either way would be alright I suppose. the problem with the first way is that the user would have to get themselves onto a VPN before the location of the msi file would be available to them.

The switch is /qb not /q - but I guess if /q isn't working /qb wont :(
I'm not that good on scripting relying more on the site I linked to but what about:
msiexec %systemdrive%\install\rktools.msi /qb for the install  ?

I got it to work by just putting the path with the switch. It took that. Thanks. That was very helpful. I still need to figure out a way to get around the fact that my remote users won't have access to this file when the script gets run to install it. I'm afraid it will just error out and then I'll get 20 calls from people wondering if they just got virus-ized.
