Hi everyone,

I have a brand new 2008 32bit windows server that I can't get to update. I receve the following error when I try:
"WindowsUpdate_80072F78" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"

There isn't any help on windows site, but I did find a site that says Symantec 11 causes the problem. Does anyone know of a patch? or a work around to run windows update?

The ironic part is I had to update from 10.2 to 11 so that my anti-virus would run on the 2008 server.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Nicolaus,

Please  ignore the last update.

As you are still getting the error message even after following the procedure outlined in the technical document link provided earlier.  I would suggest to check for any settings which might be causing for the failure from the Symantic side.

Additionally could you provide the following files:

%windir%\WindowsUpdate.log
%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\ReportingEvents.log

Regards,

Vishnu.

I'll look at that, but I forgot to add in my last post that I had actually removed Symantec after following your directions. Even with Symantec removed windows wouldn't update.

I will look at the logs first thing this afternoon.
