I have a question for you guys.

This is just an example to illustrate my question.

1. Let say I have a production domain called production.com (Exchange 2007)

2. I have an erp system that has its own mail server that will be sending out workflow emails. I need for that system to be able to receive email from the internet also. It will be using the domain name erp.production.com.

Can exchange 2007 route mail to that domain? I think it can and I am almost sure I know how to set it up, but I dont have a lab to test it in right now so I thought I would ask for a second opinion.

The only reason I ask is the name shares the same name space as production.com. We dont want to screw up mail flow or anything like that for the production email system.

Yes it can.. do the following...

1) create a MX for erp.production.com at ur ISP dns and point that to your exchagne server
2) on exchagne server 2007 add erp.production.com in the accepted domain. (Select Internal Relay)
3) now create a send connector with address space erp.production.com and smarthost it to the Ip of your erp system

Done ;-)
