Hook up HDMI laptop to svideo TV

I have a laptop that only outputs to HDMI (no vga or tvout)

is there some sort of adapter, either usb or hdmi, that would allow me to hook my laptop up to a tv that only has s-video or composite connections?

Thanks.

S-Video is an analog signal. HDMI/DVI are digital signals. To convert a digital to analog and vice versa you will need a converter box which is a bit pricey atm.

is there a usb device like an external graphics card or a reverse capture card i could use?

There is: you'll need both http://www.compusb.com/usb20svgaadu.html and http://www.svideo.com/vga2video.html.  However, USB solutions tend to be slow compared to direct VGA or s-video connections, so it may be bad for fast-changing video, not to mention somewhat expensive.

hrm...it is really annoying that alienware only gave me a hdmi port.

I have a canopus A/D converter box that has input and output...is there a way to use this for just general output?

If it's an ADC-100 or ADC-110, you can only output s-video or composite, and the source has to be s-video or composite.  The digital part is the Firewire input to the PC.
