vmware 2 ui wont display (host agent service stops)

Have installed vmware server 2 on a 2008 x32 DC. The web page ui does not come up. I think it may be because the vmware host agent service is not started. When I start it it starts then stops in about 3 seconds. I get the following error in event logs:

Faulting application vmware-hostd.exe, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x48c8fc0e, faulting module MSVCR80.dll, version 8.0.50727.1434, time stamp 0x4757746d, exception code 0x40000015, fault offset 0x000046b4, process id 0x10a4, application start time 0x01c997054188926d.

My humble suggestion would be to upgrade the build of VMware Server 2.0 to the latest version

I can not seem to find a version later than server 2.0.

Just Uninstall v2 and install v1.8, all of your vms ans settings will be saved..

Does 1.8 work on a 2008 server host? Does it also host 2008 servers?

I am not sure...

Yes 1.8 does seem to work but I do need to mirgrate to VM server 2.0. I asked this question because I need a fix not a workaround. Thanks.
