from my experience the AP mode means that it can connect to another AP as a client and &quot;bridge&quot; the connection. it kinda connects like a client but acts like a router/bridge. <br />

A repeater connects to the root AP and forwards all traffic from its clients and repeats the SAME settings as the root AP. basically, it shouts the same things as the other AP and anything it gets back it sends to the other AP. essentially its &nbsp;a middle man, only wireless. <br />
<br />
Bridges are mainly used to connect two or more wired/wireless networks and translate the ip info between them. Repeater are used to strengthen a week signal and extend the boundaries of the network.<br />
<br />
The mode you would be looking for is the repeater mode that will extend the network so other devices can access it from a further distance.<br />

You would use AP Client mode when you want to attach one machine wirelessly to your wireless network, but that machine doesn't have wireless capability. &nbsp;So, for example, if you have a TIVO that doesn't have a wireless card in it, but only has a (wired) ethernet cable, you would set your device to AP client mode, plug it into the Tivo, and it would act as a wireless NIC for the Tivo. &nbsp;It would look, to the router, like any other wireless client. &nbsp;Importantly, in AP Client mode, you have the device connected to just ONE PC, or Tivo, or whatever.<br />
<br />
In repeater mode, it's just an AMPLIFIER - it takes the signals from whatever base station it's set to, and relays them. &nbsp;You can think of it as nothing more than a big antenna. &nbsp;It won't even have its own IP address on the network; no other component on your network will even know it's there.<br />
<br />
Neither AP client mode nor repeater mode invokes bridging.<br />

like i said back in my first post, try connecting without security set, you can always go back and add it after you get connected. also you never really specified the distance between buildings. are the right next to each other or are they across each other with a road between them? This can have a effect on the signal strength and trees and/or other buildings can have adverse effects.<br />

ok since they are in the same building it helps alot. try this:<br />

take the access list off and security. try yo get a connection using just the settings for the repeater. if you get connected then jump for joy and add the security and access lists. but do it one at a time and test the connection in between each. this way you know if anything happens to the connection.<br />

It's important that the MAC address that you set the repeater to repeat &quot;from&quot; is the WIRELESS MAC of the unit that it is repeating from. &nbsp;Perhaps that's the problem you're running into.<br />

it clear up any confusion, if AP 1 has a MAC of 1234 and AP 2 has a MAC of 7890. the MAC you would put in the router (for this example is AP 2) that is repeating the signal is 1234. AP 1 is broadcasting the signal to AP 2 and AP 2 is repeating that signal. this may seem simple but may times this is the step that hangs most people up. <br />

We're not talking about routers. &nbsp;We're talking about wireless access points. &nbsp;And a wireless router (or access point) will have TWO MAC addresses on the LAN; the wired one and the wireless one. &nbsp;The point here is to use the wireless one. &nbsp;(And of course there's a third MAC address for the WAN).
