creating glow signboard of 40 feet x 3.5 feet in photoshop ...how to take big size

hi
I'm having a project from client, to make a signboard  of width 40 feet and height 3.5 feet.
its a big banner, and when i take the size of 40ft that is 40x12= 480 inches, its not allowing also the image size get bigger around 3 gb+,
Is there any way to create banner of such size or small size and later on increase the resolutions. How much dpi i should take...
Designing is not a problem just conused with size, or do i have to take the things to corel draw, but i'm loosing colors in color, not getting exact colors...
quick help will be appreciated.

Sounds like you would be better off doing it in Illustrator as vector art. I suppose, in a pinch, Corel would do but I hate corel so I can't recommend it! LOL!

additionally
if you use photos (pixel graphic) for your banner you need to use photoshop

if you use only vector graphic - use illustrator and scale down the size until you are happy with design and then scale it up to original size and check details like strokes etc. to look nice

Well, I think you should consider that if you use photoshop/bitmap art and blow it up, it will not have nice clean edges and will be fuzzy at best. If you are ok with that... you could certainly follow nzrubin's sugggestion of using a low resolution image... it will probably look like crap up close but from far away, people probably won't be able to tell the difference.

billboard is a large graphic object (especially like current one - 12 meters width)

it assumes that nobody will come closer then 2-3 meters (if it at some expo for instance) but if it is outdoor sign give it  minimum 5 meters distance to view from!

even if i ask you to come and view it from 0.5 meter distance it doesnt make any sence because you will not be able to see the picture!

it is not a brochure that you hold in your hand!

Sometimes i make billboards for Expo and i use resolution 100 px/inch! it is way enough!

take a look please

yah, I did tons of that stuff myself in another life. I still think it looks like crap, but maybe I am a purist! :-)
