How do I set the router to work in one of the 802 modes?

An acquaintance of mine  just purchased the D-link DGL-4500 xtreme N wireless gaming router. He has one computer hard wired, 2 laptops and 2 xboxs which leaves him with a total of 4 wireless devices connected to the network. Both of the wireless xbox adapters are compatible with 802.11 a/b/g but not 802.11 n. The new router just purchased is capable of 802.11 a/b/g/ and n as far as I know but, when he opened my Intel PROset/wireless configuration menu, it says in my Band is still running 802.11 g&He bought this router because he wanted to run n but that is pointless because the adapters for the xbox don't support it.

How does he change my band to run a better or different band? It would seem that if he is running g, he won't gain by going to a.
